Wilson, Edith Bolling
Nice Florida association letter

First Lady. Three page handwritten signed letter from Palm Beach, Florida, April 3, 1933. The former First Lady declines an invitation from Dr. Hamilton Holt to visit Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Holt was active in public affairs including serving on the Executive Committee of the League to Enforce Peace and the first Executive Director of the Woodrow Wilson Foundation. Rollins, formed in 1885 is Florida’s oldest post-secondary school and Holt served as its president from 1925-1949. The letter is written on “Surf Cottage, Palm Beach” stationary. Wilson’s large handwriting is quite distinctive and attractive. Although a relatively brief message she fills 2 and a half pages with her handwriting. It is an attractive example of her letters in excellent condition with nice Florida association of early Palm Beach and Rollins College. [#5338]
