Truman showing fatigue five weeks into his presidency
Truman, Harry

LS, with envelope, May 17, 1945 to Rev. D.S. Larkin five weeks after assuming the Presidency. Truman thanks the clergyman for his prayers and adds a postscript "Sorry to have been so long Father but there just aren't enough hours." Truman letters soon after becoming President are quite desirable. Most simply acknowledge messages of support while some allude to the burden he was under. This is a particularly good example from his transition accepting prayers while referencing his heavy labors and short days. [#2582]
